§1What geometric and mandala work looks like
Geometric tattoos are drawn with ruler and compass rather than freehand: straight lines, true circles, repeated segments, mirror symmetry. A familiar subject gets rebuilt on that grid, which is how this page ends up with CR-08 Geometric cross, SK-07 Geometric skull, CC-05 Geometric compass and AN-07 Geometric angel wings.
The mandala is older and more specific. The word is Sanskrit for “circle”, and in Hindu and Buddhist Tantrism a mandala is a symbolic diagram of the universe, used in rites and as a tool for meditation. A mandala tattoo borrows its round, radial layout: a center with rings of petals or segments repeating around it. Here that means R-07 Mandala rose and FL-09 Lotus mandala.
§2Why geometric stencils need care
Symmetry shows every mistake. A slightly crooked line disappears among the petals of a rose, but a lopsided circle in a mandala is the first thing people see. Before the stencil goes down, mark the center line of the placement on the skin and line the stencil up to it.
Curved body parts also stretch flat shapes. A circle wrapped around a forearm looks like an oval from the side, so check the stencil with the arm relaxed and from the angle people will see it, before any tattooing starts.
§3Which design to pick
HT-07 Geometric heart and SP-06 Geometric spider are the two beginner designs, 3 and 3.5 in by default. The other seven are detailed and start at 4.5 in.
| Placement | Usual size | Good designs |
|---|---|---|
| Wrist | 1–3 in | HT-07 |
| Forearm | 3–6 in | HT-07, SP-06, CR-08, SK-07, BF-06 Geometric butterfly |
| Chest | 3–10 in | AN-07, FL-09, R-07, CC-05 |
| Back | 4–10 in | R-07, AN-07, CC-05, BF-06 |
| Thigh | 4–10 in | R-07, FL-09 |
Ranges are a starting point, taken from published size charts by Saved Tattoo and Inkjin.
§4Questions
Q1What does a mandala tattoo mean?
In Hindu and Buddhist practice a mandala is a diagram of the universe, used in rituals and meditation, and the word means “circle” in Sanskrit. How much of that a tattoo carries is up to the person wearing it.
Q2Do you have honeycomb or background pattern stencils?
No. Every design on this page is a standalone figure. For lace-like filigree, look at the cross on the gothic horror page.
Q3Which geometric stencil is easiest for a beginner?
HT-07 Geometric heart and SP-06 Geometric spider. Both are marked beginner and print at 3–3.5 in by default, and HT-07 fits a wrist.
Q4Is there a long mandala for a forearm or spine?
Not as a single design. R-07 and FL-09 are round mandalas, so on a forearm they work as a centerpiece rather than a long band.
